About the artist

Artist statement

Julie Robinson-Southward is an artist printmaker based in the Fylde area of Lancashire, England, where she has lived all of her life. After leaving art school in Blackpool, England, she worked outside the art world, but continued to paint and exhibit. She was originally a landscape and portrait painter working in oils and acrylic, but tried various methods of printmaking along the way, and discovered a love of etching. She had a break from picture making between 1990 and 2009 to pursue other creative interests, but  when she retired in 2009 she returned to printmaking.  She loves the diversity of results achieved by the different printmaking processes and the excitement of never knowing what the end result will be. She mainly does etchings and reductive linocuts, but also likes to experiment by combining both techniques, and adding collagraph and stencilled elements. Her inspiration comes from her local area, and its wildlife and agriculture.
